STRUCTURE
A building is an incredibly complex creature, perhaps a modest approximation of the human body. It is an symphony of a multitude of systems, all of which need to work together, as a harmonious whole, to achieve its maximum utility and beauty.
Its obvious systems include its structural skeleton, its plumbing and mechanical networks. Less visible systems embody the patterns of life developed by its inhabitants, systems like circulation and use patterns. Then there are elusive systems in which the building satisfies the user's sense of beauty, of touch, of memory.
Weaving all this together is a very complex, but equally fascinating and rewarding task.
